AstraZeneca, a British pharmaceutical company, has launched its first schizophrenia treatment, Seroquel XR, in Britain. Seroquel XR is being manufactured by AstraZeneca, the maker of the brand name drug schizophrenia, as well as by Sandoz, the German-based pharmaceutical group.
The launch comes a day after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Seroquel XR as an anti-psychotic drug. The FDA has issued a warning to the public that Seroquel XR is associated with severe side effects such as hallucinations, agitation and delusions.
“Many people think of drugs like Seroquel XR and are not aware of how dangerous it can be,” said Dr. John Barder, director of the FDA’s Health Safety and Clinical Programs Section.
“It’s important to know that the side effects of drugs like Seroquel XR and Seroquel are very rare and often affect only a small number of patients. We are not taking any actions to stop this from happening.”
Seroquel XR was launched in Britain by AstraZeneca. It is the world’s first schizophrenia treatment to be launched in the UK.
“The main thing we are trying to do is to bring about more awareness about the risks and side effects of Seroquel XR,” said Dr. David Brennan, a senior vice president at Sandoz. “It is important to ensure that people who are taking Seroquel XR and who are not taking other medications are not prescribed them and they continue to experience these side effects.”
Seroquel XR can cause hallucinations, delusions and paranoia, as well as a number of more serious side effects. The FDA has not recommended that Seroquel XR be used for patients with schizophrenia who may also experience the side effects of other schizophrenia medicines. The drug is also not indicated for use in people with bipolar disorder.
Seroquel XR is being manufactured by AstraZenecaSeroquel XR is being manufactured by AstraZeneca. The drug was approved in the UK by the FDA in April and has since been licensed in the US. The company’s patent for Seroquel XR is still on hold, though it has been granted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“The FDA is concerned about the potential link between Seroquel XR and the serious side effects that could occur if you take these medicines,” said Dr. David Barder, director of the FDA’s Health Safety and Clinical Programs Section.
“We will work with the US FDA to address this and ensure that these side effects are appropriately treated.”
The FDA has issued a warning to the public about the dangers of Seroquel XR. The drug was approved in the UK in February by the drug’s manufacturer, AstraZeneca.
The company has said that the drug’s side effects include hallucinations, delusions and paranoia.
The warning to the public is based on a “black box” warning from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
In a statement issued by AstraZeneca, the company said: “We are extremely concerned that Seroquel XR could cause serious side effects. These are very rare and can occur very rarely, but serious side effects are possible.”
AstraZeneca said it is “actively engaged in ongoing research and development to further our scientific and clinical efforts” on this subject.
AstraZeneca has been working on Seroquel XR for a number of years. The company has also been developing and commercialising the drug, and is in discussions with its UK patent attorney and drug regulatory authorities to determine the best way of addressing the issue. AstraZeneca is also working with the FDA on a study to determine the best way to treat schizophrenia, given that it has not taken the drug for over a decade.
Seroquel XR is being launched in Britain and follows the UK launch in 2010 of Seroquel XR, which was approved in the US in February.
“We are continuing to work on developing therapies for patients who are on Seroquel XR and those who have not been on any other medication,” said AstraZeneca CEO Michael Gellion.

Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic drug that is used to treat patients with schizophrenia as well as mania and depression related to bipolar disorder. Extended-release quetiapine is prescribed to treat depression.
Quetiapine is prescribed to treat symptoms of schizophrenia. It is also prescribed to treat mania and depression symptoms associated with bipolar disorder. When prescribed as an extended-release tablet, quetiapine can be used to treat depression in adults.
Quetiapine is classified as an atypical antipsychotic. It works by increasing levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Serotonin and dopamine are neurotransmitters that help regulate mood. Balancing these chemicals’ levels in the brain can work to reduce symptoms of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder (depression).
Quetiapine is prescribed in conjunction with other medications and psychotherapy (“talk therapy”).
Quetiapine is available as an oral tablet and an extended-release tablet.
Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding dosage and schedule. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or frequency of use without consulting your provider.
Quetiapine is used to manage schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder (as an adjunct therapy). The effects can be noticeable within a few weeks, but it may take up to four to twelve weeks for the full therapeutic effect to occur.
Continue using quetiapine as prescribed, even if you start feeling better. Regular use according to your prescription is crucial for the management of your condition.
While quetiapine is primarily used for treating schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder, healthcare providers may prescribe it off-label for other conditions such as anxiety or insomnia.

AstraZeneca's Seroquel has received approval from the U. S. Food and Drug Administration for its approval for treating schizophrenia. It is the second off-patent antipsychotic drug to receive the approval from the FDA.
The drug, which is called Seroquel XR, has received FDA approval for its off-patent, pre-existing condition, as well as other uses. In addition to its brand-name status as an off-patent antipsychotic, the drug is also approved for uses not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The approval comes just over two years after the FDA rejected the drug for its off-label uses for schizophrenia. As with any off-label use, it's important to note that the drug may cause some side effects that are not typically associated with medications that treat schizophrenia.
The FDA said it had determined that the off-label use of Seroquel XR did not cause serious adverse events. It has also recommended that the drug be used only for indications other than its approved uses.
According to the FDA, the drug was approved for a limited number of uses. The drug was also approved for off-label uses, such as for purposes other than those approved by the FDA, such as for treating depression, insomnia or obsessive compulsive disorders.
For the off-label uses, the FDA found that the drug could potentially cause a serious allergic reaction. However, the company said the side effects reported were generally mild and transient. The FDA has also recommended that the drug be used only for indications other than its approved uses.
The drug is the second off-patent antipsychotic approved for the treatment of schizophrenia. The drug was approved for its off-label use in the United States in 1997.
Originally developed for the treatment of schizophrenia, it was marketed as Seroquel XR for use as an add-on treatment to a medication that can treat the symptoms of schizophrenia. The drug was later marketed under the brand name Seroquel.
According to the FDA, the off-label use of Seroquel XR, also known as Seroquel XR-P, is associated with a rare but serious side effect called mania, characterized by a high level of the hormone hypomania, which is thought to be the result of the medication being too strong for the brain to function normally.
The drug was approved by the FDA for its off-label uses in the United States, Canada and Europe in 1997. The off-label uses for Seroquel XR were approved in Canada in 2003. The drug was approved for its off-label uses in the United States in 2003.
The drug has also been approved for off-label use for other uses, including as an adjunctive treatment for acute manic episodes.
In 2021, AstraZeneca announced the FDA's approval of its off-label use of Seroquel XR for the treatment of bipolar disorder. The drug was also approved for its off-label uses for the treatment of schizophrenia. The FDA's approval is the second off-label use of Seroquel XR for the treatment of bipolar disorder.
The approval has been approved for its off-label uses in the United States and Canada in 2021. The drug is approved for uses not approved by the FDA.
The off-label use of Seroquel XR is a condition in which a patient is unable to have or maintain normal functioning due to a lack of mental health symptoms or disorders.
